The Ararat Jailhouse Rock Festival was established in 1995 to celebrate everything rock’n’roll. COVID disruptions aside it is one of Australia’s longest-running festivals. The festival is a family-friendly event, with great music, fashion, cars and motorcycles and of course dancing.
Ararat Jailhouse Rock Festival is a distinctive vintage revelry that celebrates the unique atmosphere of the 50s and 60s through rockabilly music, dancing and fashion. This dynamite event is run by dedicated volunteers with support from the Ararat Rural City Council which draws thousands of people to their hometown every year.
Saturday will be starting off at Alexandra Oval from 10 am with hot rods and classic bikes as well as performances from live music bands and plenty of dancing. Everyone can take part in a dance-off contest, explore the beer garden or join on a car cruise tour at 2pm. As night comes alive, expect more rock’n’roll music jamming from 7pm onwards with lively dances under the stars.
Sunday will bring more fun activities as they host a children’s entertainment program, food stalls, BBQs, Jailhouse Show’n’Shine cars display and free-spirited fashion parades to get everyone grooving!
Miss Ararat Jailhouse Rock
No word at this time about a best-dressed or pinup parade for the event. I will update you when I get the information.
Backstory
This event has been a bit hit and miss, especially for the pinup competition. Unable to secure a good location they have been dumped in disconnected parts of the festival. However, I missed the last event which was bought the competition back to town.
