Rock the Clock Festival
An event that started as the Camperdown Cruise has evolved to be more about the rock-n-rollers. The original event had a great rockabilly community vibe with cars, music and fashion.
About Rock the Clock Festival
Come and visit the Camperdown’s Rock the Clock Festival is run by a volunteer committee and is supported by community groups. The festival is a four-day celebration of vintage and retro and features live bands, DJs, retro fashions, market stalls, a drive-in theatre and more. The festivities are along the historic tree-lined main street of Camperdown, taking in the town’s iconic clock tower, historic buildings and the grand old dame, the restored Theatre Royal.
The Rock the Clock event promotes great band line up including:
- A Band Called Twang
- Slim Gritty
- The Fender Benders
- Itchy Fingers
- Robyn & the Ranchers
- Devil Women from Mars
- Many more
The music leans more toward Country popular with older dancers. A small show & shine car show in the main street along with market stalls and in street dancing at the clock tower.
The 2011 event was my first visit and the first time I was introduced to the Victorian Pinup community. There are plenty of accommodation options, great food and scenic landscapes to enjoy. Bring plenty of warm clothes as the area is known for fast-changing weather.
Camperdown Event History
The earlier event would bring large numbers from Melbourne and Geelong. With engagement from the large car club and pinup community, it was a highlight on the calendar.
There are a lot of rumors about how the original event ended. The weather did cast a shadow on the last couple of events and the locals believed there was little financial benefit with so many outside businesses descending on the town.
The pin-up and fashion parades use to be a highlight and the main reason I continued to attend. Without the broader rockability community involved, I will be skipping this year’s event.
If live music and rock-n-roll dancing is your thing, Rock the Clock is a great event.
Other things to do.
Cafes, restaurants and scenic drives are a must. Cruise up to the volcanic crater above the town or the botanical gardens on the crater rim.
